LATINO COMMUNITY CAN RECEIVE FREE LEGAL ASSISTANCE

State Bar sponsors "Talk To A Lawyer Today" Jan. 19 in recognition of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA), in cooperation with various groups around the state, will sponsor a program that offers free legal assistance to the citizens of Indiana. "Talk To A Lawyer Today" features volunteer attorneys answering legal questions free of charge both in-person and over the phone on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Legal assistance from attorneys fluent in Spanish is available by calling 1-800-869-0212 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is the second year for the "Talk To A Lawyer Today" program. Last year, more than 1,100 legal questions were answered in one day by volunteer attorneys across Indiana. This is the first year that a dedicated phone number for the Spanish-speaking community has been established.

"Attorneys continually seek ways to make the judicial system and the law less intimidating for Indiana's citizens. This program is an excellent opportunity for ISBA members to educate the community on the law and for the public to get answers to their legal questions," Sherrill Wm. Colvin, ISBA president and an attorney from Fort Wayne, Ind., said. For more information call the ISBA at 1-800-266-2581.
