Community prayer breakfast to kick off Martin Luther King Jr. Study Day Jan. 19

Honoring the life of Martin Luther King Jr. in the context of the Christian faith that sustained him, a 7:30 a.m. community breakfast Jan. 19 at Goshen College began the day with prayer and remembrance.

The fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Prayer Breakfast at Goshen College’s Church-Chapel Fellowship Hall featured a meditation by Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian, a veteran of the civil rights movement and close associate of Martin Luther King Jr. Vivian also served as dean at Shaw Divinity School and director of the Urban Training Center for Christian Mission and founded the Center for Democratic Renewal.

Goshen College President Shirley H. Showalter welcomed participants to the breakfast and the Goshen College Martin Luther King, Jr. Study Day, which included a 10 a.m. public convocation by Vivian. Goshen College’s Voices ’n Harmony choir, under the direction of Patrice Penny-Henderson, offered musical selections during the worship program.
