Lifelong Learning sets lecture series schedule
GOSHEN The Lifelong Learning Institute of Elkhart County will play host to the ninth annual Mid-Winter Lecture Series 2008 that will begin Jan. 23.
The lectures, free and open to the public, will take place from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Greencroft Senior Center, 1820 Greencroft Blvd., Goshen.
Jan. 23: Janice Luckenbill, Healing Touch/Energy Therapy: What is it? Does it Work? An RN/educators search into energy therapy and its role in the healing of disease, emotional distress, and spiritual conflict.
Jan. 30: Gordon Gerson, The Medical Delivery System in Cuba. With experience in about 60 countries, sometimes working under the World Health Organization, Dr. Gerson will focus on both the achievements and limitations of Cubas health system as he encountered them from 1998 to 2002.
Feb. 6: Sam Troyer, You Can Go Home Again. Sam will relate his unusual journey from Amish roots to military service, dramatic moments of revelation, and then back to his peace church heritage and pastoral leadership.
Feb. 13: Lisa (Carreño), Tito, and Rachel Guedea, Becoming American An Intergenerational Dialogue on Immigration. One familys personal experience with cultural identity, assimilation, and minority status in the country that has been called both a nation of immigrants and a multicultural melting pot.
Feb. 20: John Preheim, Hoosier Hysteria. Stories and trivia from the good old days of Indiana high school basketball. Famous names and games, as well as gym and school nicknames selected from the more than 400 that Preheim has visited.
Feb. 27: Sreekala Rajagopalan, My Journey as an Immigrant in the New World. The story of a woman who 35 years ago came from India with her two little daughters. Educated and upper middle class, yet also naive, she had only family and good friends to depend on, and no job.
The LLI of Elkhart County is jointly sponsored by Goshen College and Greencroft Goshen. It is a member of The Elderhostel Institute Network. Directors are Wilbur and Fanni Birky, of Goshen.
