LaCasa Receives $92,340 to Support Foreclosure Prevention Counseling Efforts

Grant provides much-needed boost to Elkhart County homeowners in danger of foreclosure.

Goshen, Indiana - LaCasa, Inc. announced that it has received notification of an award of $92,340 to support foreclosure prevention counseling efforts for Elkhart and surrounding counties in Northern Indiana. The much-needed funding will enable LaCasa, Inc to maintain foreclosure counseling services that the organization has been providing area homeowners for the past 18 months.

The National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Grant will help pay for the counseling that LaCasa has already demonstrated to be necessary to sustain communities in and around the Elkhart County Area. This grant will enable LaCasa to continue to provide foreclosure prevention and loss mitigation counseling to six counties in Northern Indiana; Elkhart, St. Joseph, Noble, Marshall, Kosciusko, and LaGrange. LaCasa funded foreclosure prevention counseling for 396 families in 2008 and with the receipt of the grant, will be able to provide foreclosure prevention and loss mitigation services to additional families through 2009. Grant monies will also allow LaCasa to hold future foreclosure forums to aid even more families with this need in the community.

The Mission of the LaCasa Homeownership Center is to work with individuals and community partners to prepare for, provide, and maintain homeownership.
