Area schools win ‘Four Star’ award
The Indiana Department of Education has named several area schools as winners of the Four Star School Award.
It means that, in the 2008-09 school year, they ranked among the top 25 percent of schools in Indiana according to their attendance rates, student achievement and performance on the Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress — or ISTEP — test.
A total of 188 schools across the state received the honor. All of the schools had to meet federal standards, known as Adequate Yearly Progress, as defined by the No Child Left Behind Act.
