National School Choice Week
National School Choice Week has selected Jacksonville, Florida to host the Official Kickoff of National School Choice Week 2015. Join students, parents, teachers and school choice supporters from across America and help launch America’s largest-ever celebration of educational opportunity.
School choice gives parents the freedom to choose their children’s education, while encouraging healthy competition among schools to better serve families› needs.
School choice lets parents use the public funds set aside for their children›s education to choose the schools—public or private, near or far, religious or secular—that work best for them.
School choice is provided a variety of ways. Vouchers, education savings accounts, tax-credit scholarships, and individual tax credits/deductions are the programs currently in operation in various states.
School Choice in Indiana
Indiana has three private school choice programs (tax-credit scholarships, vouchers, individual tax deduction). The state also has a charter school law. Indiana allows for limited public virtual schooling. Limited open enrollment exists, only intradistrict public school choice in Indianapolis.
