January 27, Indianapolis, IN — Christopher Anderson, Recorder, Stephanie Burgess, Clerk, David Hess, Auditor, and C.J. Yoder, Council member of Elkhart County were four of over 100 newly-elected county officials from around the state who attended the Association of Indiana Counties’ (AIC) Newly-Elected Officials Seminar held in Indianapolis on Saturday, January 25. The Newly-Elected Officials Seminar is organized bi-annually after each county election to help new officials familiarize themselves with various functions of county government, as well as the responsibilities of other elected county officials. Issues discussed at the seminar include: debt financing, revenue sources, county budgeting procedures, open door law, public records, liability and employment issues. Also attending were officials from the State Budget Agency, State Board of Accounts and the Department of Local Government Finance, who provided an explanation and overview of their agencies responsibilities during the day-long seminar.

The Association of Indiana Counties, Inc. (AIC) is a nonprofit organization established in 1957 for the betterment of county government. The various functions of the AIC include lobbying the Indiana General Assembly on behalf of counties, serving as liaison among counties, state and federal agencies as well as providing technical assistance, training and communications to county officials and employees.
