Willing to witness for peace

Capital police arrested 42 people — including Karl Shelly of Goshen, and Margaret Pfeil and the Rev. Andre Gingerich Stoner, both of South Bend — in an act of civil disobedience Friday at the Hart Senate Office Building in Washington D.C. The group, part of Christian Peace Witness for Iraq, knelt and prayed for peace and an end to torture as an instrument of war. “Our nation’s leaders refuse to say that things like waterboarding are torture, “Stoner says. “I feel compelled as a follower of Jesus and as a citizen to say, ‘No, not in my name.’ (South Bend Tribune, March 13, 2008)
