COMCAST AWARDS $20K GRANT TO LA CASA DE AMISTAD LITERACY PROGRAMS
South Bend, Indiana- February 11, 2009: Comcast presented a $20,000 grant check in support of literacy programs to La Casa de Amistad at its monthly Board meeting this evening.
For 35 years La Casa de Amistad has been a part of the West Side of South Bend, and it has provided many men, women, and children the opportunity to come and take part in enhancing a skill or developing a new skill through participating in English classes, computer literacy classes, financial classes, after school programming, pre-k reading readiness, citizenship classes, and much more. “The $20,000 will be used to augment the outreach and curriculum of our Literacy En Nuestra Casa programs,” stated Executive Director Rebecca Ruvalcaba. “ These programs empower individuals to enhance their home, work, and personal lives; classes like, English as a New Language, GED, Financial Literacy, Computer Literacy, and Pre-K reading readiness.”
