Washington, DC [CapitalWirePR] February 23, 2010 – As the U.S. economy moves into recovery, The Latino Coalition (TLC), America’s leading advocate for Latino-owned, small and medium-sized businesses, announces that its annual Economic Summit and Business Procurement Event will return to our nation’s capital on May 4-5 at the Mandarin Hotel.
Created to ensure that small and medium-sized Latino enterprises have equitable access to loans, stimulus funds and federal contracts, the Economic Summit gathers hundreds of pre-qualified, Hispanic entrepreneurs from across the nation to participate in one-on-one appointments with federal agency and corporate procurement officers. These sessions have secured hundreds of millions of dollars for participating companies and have helped ‘lift the tide’ for Hispanics across the country.
“The fact still remains that Hispanics are one of the most active and successful entrepreneur groups in our country today,” noted Hector V. Barreto, TLC’s Chairman and Former Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (2001-2006). “Greater access to small business loans and federal contracts may be that key factor that allows a Latino-owned small business to expand, buy new equipment or hire more workers, which collectively helps our country come out of this economic downturn,” he added.
In addition to the procurement sessions, Economic Summit attendees also receive legislative briefings from elected officials, as well as workshop sessions that focus on key issues important to small business, such as: newly available financing, key insurance, legal issues, healthcare development and the international business landscape.
Last year’s speakers included U.S. Senator John Thune, who provided a prescient analysis on Healthcare Reform, and U.S. Senator John Cornyn, who gave an update on ‘Card Check’ Legislation. Speakers for this year’s event will include notable government and business leaders.
