Latinos Voice Concerns to Ohio Legislature Dayton, Ohio

Latino Community Representatives from the Miami Valley participated in the People of Color Advocacy Day organized by the Ohio Commission on Hispanic Latino Affairs (OCHLA) at the Statehouse in Columbus on March 16th, 2005. The meeting was part of OCHLA’s overall strategy to improve the quality of education for Hispanic youth, and to facilitate the communication between the growing Latino community and state elected officials.

Over 30 Hispanic representatives from Toledo, Cleveland, Youngstown, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati talked to legislators about issues affecting the Latino community.

This was the first time at the State House for many of the participants. Amidst nervousness and anticipation, it was encouraging for them to talk face to face with their state representatives. The legislators were eager to learn about the growing number of Latinos that are living in their districts.
