Sinclair Jazz Concert to Feature Trumpeter

Dayton, Ohio ­ Trumpet artist Bobby Shew will perform with the Sinclair Community College Jazz Ensemble in concert on Friday, April 15.

Bruce Jordan, Sinclair Professor of Music and Jazz Ensemble director, will lead the 16-piece big band in an 8 p.m. performance in Blair Hall Theatre, Building 2, on the Sinclair campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Sinclair concert will feature 10 tunes, including Beautiful Love by Victor Young, Potato Blues by Matt Harris, and Bert Joris’ Walkin’ Tiptoe.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Shew began playing musical instruments by the age of eight and by 15 had put together his own group. He has performed with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Charlie Shavers, Woody Herman’s Band, Della Reese, and Buddy Rich. The big bands he has performed with include Bill Holman, Louie Bellson, Terry Gibbs, and Don Menza.
