A group of residents got together to talk about preventing gang violence, ethnic tensions and related problems. Participants discussed whether Hispanics are properly recognized for their work ethic and contribution to the economy, whether media coverage of the shooting leaned too negative. The next meeting will be on May 23rd, at 7:00 p.m. at the Goshen Public Library.

Goshen residents carpooled and rode bicycles to visit 10 sites on a “Sustainable Living Tour” on April 30, featuring homes and gardens where owners are conserving resources in their practices. Water conservation was the featured item at the home of Eric Kurtz and Carmen Horst. Eric explained to the crowd how his method worked.


Washington, DC - The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., denounced the passage of the “REAL ID Act,” included as part of the Iraqi supplemental appropriations bill which achieved final passage today in Congress.


Governor Daniels appoint Advisor of Latino Affairs

Governor Mitch Daniels today announced the creation of the post of Senior Advisor for Latino Affairs in the Office of the Governor. Juana Orellán Watson of Columbus will serve in the position. The announcement came at the Indianapolis launch of the Spanish language version of Rx for Indiana, the successful program that links Hoosiers to companies providing free or significantly reduced-cost prescription drugs.
