Thanking the students!
Every year we thank the teachers, school corporations, families and communities at large for their efforts to assist students throughout their high school years until graduation.
Today I want to express my deepest thankfulness to each Latino student that graduated this year from high school and colleges.
Many times I have asked myself how can students of all ages endure the pressure and persecution that their parents suffer and the financial repercussions these situation bring to their households.
The students are bombarded daily with comments about their immigration status, new frightening laws like that of Arizona, uncertainty about whether they will stay or leave the country. Nevertheless these courageous young people not only attend school, participate in sports, music and clubs, but also they manage to pass the tests and other requirements to graduate.
In this and the following issues we will be publishing photos of many of our students. We are aware of the fact that they have yearbooks at each of their schools, but we are delighted and honored to publish their success and we encourage them to continue!
Each one of us who was cheering you for the last years, feel that this is our triumph too. Because you persisted, we have hope. Because we dreamed together, but you kept on task, we can truly say. Si se puede! Yes, you can and you have!
Even though the immediate future possibilities look grim, let us remember that it looked that way during all the time you were studying, but now nobody can take away what you have learned and what you can accomplish!
“Well done!” It’s time to also thank yourselves for your achievements, and as you reflect on the things that brought about this success, gather strength for the journey ahead.
Many people were behind you, giving you support, and surrounding you with possibilities, but you took their efforts and transformed them into a reality.
It took a lot of patience, hard work and determination to reach your goal, now we expect you to set the next one.
Many times we are bombarded with news about the gangs, the kids that fail, the dropouts, teenage pregnancies, etc. Today you have placed all that in second place. I cannot thank you enough and also on behalf of the many who continue to support you. Once more thank you for your effort and your courage!
