Speaking is Gavin Ferlic, member of the South Bend Common Council. Jesusa Rivera from St. Adalbert’s and Mayor Pete Buttigieg also spoke.
The mayor said that although immigration is a national issue, it is also a very local issue which affects each one of us in this community. He reminded the group that we are all immigrants and we must see that those who have come here more recently than we have need to be given the opportunity to contribute to and be part of this nation who needs them as much as they need to be here. They want to be good citizens and they deserve the chance to do that. We need to let our lawmakers know that we support immigration reform and we expect them to do so also.
