July 17, 2009 (Elkhart) – At a time when Congress is debating serious issues that will impact area businesses, representatives from the Chambers of Commerce and economic development agencies of Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan will be meeting with the regional Congressional Delegation on July 22 and 23 in Washington, DC.
The traveling coalition represents the Chambers of Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth, St. Joseph County and Warsaw/Kosciusko County. The Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County and the Cornerstone Alliance from Benton Harbor, Michigan, are also participating. Meetings are scheduled with Senators Richard Lugar and Evan Bayh and Representatives Joe Donnelly, Mark Souder and Fred Upton. There will also be briefings from key lobbyists and an update on stimulus funding.
This is the third DC Fly-in from the region. Chamber representatives report the fly-in is a valuable tool for building relationships with policy makers in the nation’s capitol.
Among the issues the Chamber delegation will present are Cap and Trade, Employee Free Choice Act, health care reform, immigration reform, and transportation issues.
