Visit the Children’s Dept. 24/7... on Facebook!
Over one billion people around the globe use Facebook. According to Library Journal’s “Survey on Public Marketing Methods and Best Practices”, 86 percent of libraries said they were using social media. The Children’s Department at the Warsaw Community Public Library has been a part of this phenomenon for nearly three years.
The page began by using content that would catch the eye of parents and their children. It has continued to be a source of information and entertainment to our patrons and others. The page shares school and community news, events, and announcements. For example, when the Winona Lake Limitless Park was closed due to inclement weather this week, we passed the news on to our Facebook readers, along with a link to their page.
If you check out our Facebook page, you might find a picture of a book that is brand new to our library, and an invitation to come in and borrow it. You might find an interesting post with a comic, cooking or craft ideas for kids, or clever tips and ideas for making life easier or more fun. You might find memes about kids or parenting that you may want to pass on to your friends. You might find library news, thank-yous to local businesses, or pictures of local families participating in events like Lego Club.
This week, we put a challenge on our page from Stephanie Hershberger, one of our beloved employees. We were getting close to having 1,000 children signed up for our Summer Reading Program, and she promised to color her hair purple if we hit the mark. If you visit our page, you can see the results.
Come visit our WCPL’s Kids Corner Facebook page any time of day or night. You’re there, anyway. Stop by!
