Colombian Independence Day Celebrated in Fort Wayne
On July 18, a fiesta was held at Club NV on Parnell Avenue in Fort Wayne to celebrate the Colombian Independence Day. Arranged by local Colombian citizens, the event was festive and well-attended.
Traditional Colombian music was played and the dance troupe “Brisas de Colombia” performed dances such as the “Colombian cumbia” and “Contradanza”. In between dance performances attendees were packing the dance floor to move to Colombian and other Latino music.
In addition to the entertainment, guests were able to buy authentic Colombian cuisine: Empanadas, a “bread type” pudding, Arroz con pollo, Papas Chorreadas, Arroz con leche, Tamales Colombianos, and soft drinks. There were also various ethnic items for sale.
The event was held to raise money to support the “Brisas de Colombia” dance troupe. Photo by Carlos Arango.
