Organizers of Fifth Annual Health Fair expecting huge community participation
On Saturday September 12, 2009 the all volunteer staff of over 300 people will begin arriving to Elkhart Central High School to begin final preparations for the 5th Annual Elkhart County Health Fair organized by the HLHCEC.
New screenings this year include Skin Cancer and lung function assessment both being offered by the Goshen Health System; and Sickle Cell testing being offered by the Memorial Hospital. These are in addition to the 22 other tests which include Lipid Panel (12 hour fasting required), BMI, Glucose, Diabetes, Clinical Breast Exam, Osteoporosis, Kidney, HIV, Vision Screening, Depression, Heart Monitor Pattern, a car seat clinic with free car seats replaced if needed, Immunizations and Lead poisoning screenings for children ages 1-6 will also be provided. Doors open at 8AM but registration begins at 6:30AM so come early for best selection of screenings.
For a third straight year, with a grant from Susan G. Komen Foundation, appointments for mammograms will be available for women younger than 40 who have a family history of breast cancer and do not qualify to the BCCP program.
