La Casa de Amistad is pleased to present the 9th Annual Fiesta Michiana. A celebration of the rich and diverse cultures of the Spanish speaking countries of the world. Fiesta will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at Howard Park in South Bend. Begun in 1993 as an effort to expose both Latinos and the greater Michiana community to the many and varied traditions of dance, music, food, and culture throughout Latin America, Fiesta continues to attract an ever growing number of area residents to participate in the festivities. This year’s all day event will include quality entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, children’s activities, boat rides on the St. Joseph river, and ethnic foods. It will again provide a venue for the enjoyment of the cultural diversity in Michiana. Fiesta hours are 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Admission is free.
2002 Fort Wayne Calendar of Events Open Through October 13th Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo - Opens Sea Lion Beach Exhibit. The zoo is open every day from 9 am to 5 pm. Admission is $6.50 for adults, $4.00 for children ages 2-14, $4.00 for persons over 60, and free for babies under 2. For more information, call: (260) 422-2651. 9/7/02 - 11/3/02 Contemporary Folk Art: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum Come discover the wit, ingenuity, insight and reverence of contemporary folk art at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. In this traveling exhibition, self-taught artists from all over the country demonstrate how imaginative folk artists can be in transforming ordinary objects and materials into paintings and sculpture Regular museum admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students and $8 for families. His concert presents music of the Americans from the time of Columbus featuring Inca Indian melodies, Brazilian sambas and Argentine tangos. 7:30 pm at Neff Recital Hall. South Bend Regional Museum of Art La banda “coro” internacional brasilera tendrá una presentación el 26 de Septiembre, de 5 a 8:30 p.m., en el mueso Regional de Arte de South Bend. La música “coro” ha sido descrita como el “Jazz de New orleans de Brasil”. El renombrado grupo Rabo de Lagartixa viene patrocinado por el Ministerio de cultura de Brasil y el Instituto Kellog de Estudios Internacionales de la Universidad de Notre Dame. El evento además está co-patrocinado por Century Center, WVPE 88.1 y SBRMA. La admisión para los no miembros es $5.
