Lincoln Elementary honored for Exceptional Student Performance

Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Tony Bennett acknowledged Lincoln Elementary in Warsaw today after the school received national recognition as a Title 1 Distinguished School.  Lincoln joins more than 75 schools honored nationwide for exceptional student performance in 2009 by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Association of State Title 1 Directors.

Title 1 is the largest federal-aid program in K-12 education. Serving over 150 million children nationwide, the program helps provide additional support in reading, writing and mathematics.  Since 1996, the Title 1 Distinguished Schools program has honored Title 1 schools that demonstrate exceptional progress in either sustained student achievement or closing the achievement gap.

In addition to receiving a $50,000 high performing school grant award, an honorary banner and certificate, representatives from Lincoln will be recognized at the National Title 1 conference in January.
