The Multicultural Student Organization of Ivy Tech Community College of Fort Wayne presented an interesting variety of activities for their 7th annual Day of Salsa and Hispanic Culture Celebration. The festivities began with a keynote address on “Hispanics in Allen County” by Rick Robles of the Fort Wayne Police Department. Another speaker later in the day was Teresa Vazquez, professor of Spanish at Ivy Tech. Two films, “The Motorcycle Diaries” and “Safe in the City” were shown. Salsa lessons and dance demonstrations were given for interested participants.
Cultural displays from various Latino countries and information booths were available throughout the day. Also present were art exhibits from Latino students at South Side High School of Fort Wayne. At noon there was Mexican food for anyone who wanted a sample. Tasty rice, beans, chips and salsa, enchiladas, quesadillas, sweet bread and a variety of hot sauces, topped off with cake and soda provided by local restaurants were served in the Student Life Building.
The students and staff of Ivy Tech did an excellent job of helping the community celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
