Sinclair Announces Deadline for Writing Contest

Dayton, Ohio — Sinclair Community College has set a February 1, 2005 deadline for its Annual Creative Writing Contest. Sinclair is once again offering cash prizes for winning entries by middle and high school, as well as adult writers from southwestern Ohio.

Sponsored by Sinclair’s English department, the contest is open to writers whom have received no payment for published manuscripts. There are three age categories including adult, high school and middle school/junior high school (grades 6 through 9). Within each age category, authors may submit fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Entries must be postmarked by February 1, 2005.

In each category, prizes will be $60 for first place, $30 for second place, and $20 for third place. In addition to the category prizes, a Bill Vernon Prize of $100 will be awarded to Best of Contest for a story, essay or poem. Vernon is former director of the Creative Writing Contest and retired Sinclair faculty member. Honorable mention and first through third place winners will receive certificates suitable for framing.

Fees are $5 per adult entry and $3 per high school and middle school/junior high school entry. Two poems will be considered one entry.
