MINORITY HEALTH COALITION OF ELKHART COUNTY, INC. AND HISPANIC/LATINO HEALTH COALITION OF ELKHART COUNTY TOWN HALL MEETING ON HEALTH DISPARIATES IN ELKHART COUNTY

Minority Health Coalition of Elkhart County and the Hispanic/Latino Health Coalition; in conjunction with Dave Miller, Mayor of Elkhart, Allan Kauffman, Mayor of Goshen and Dr. Aixsa Perez, Health Officer of Elkhart County will be holding a Town Hall Meeting on health disparities in Elkhart County. The results come from the Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC) Statewide Community Health Needs Assessment Project. This project was conducted as part of IMHC strategic plan to assess the state of health for minorities of Indiana.

The meeting will be Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. at the City of Elkhart, Council Chambers, 229 South Second St, Elkhart IN.

We are inviting all of Elkhart County elected and appointed official, civic leaders and the general public to hear the results of the need assessment report on minority health disparities in Elkhart County

Although racial and ethic minorities make up less than 14.6 percent of Indiana’s population, the state’s 2004 Minority Health Report indicates that these minorities have a disproportionately high incidence rate for many serious health problems, like diabetes, heart disease, cancer and HIV/AIDS.  Our specific aim is to stimulate a sense of community awareness of the importance of accessing health care by encouraging individuals to attend.  There is a serious gap that exists between minorities and the general population.
