Quilt to fight breast cancer will be on display
The Retreat Women’s Health Center received a donation of the prize winning handmade quilt “Interlocking Hearts of Hope” from a raffle held at the recent Celebrating Life Tea & Style Show.
The quilt design was replicated in the Elkhart Wellfield Botanical Gardens as part of Elkhart County & Visitor’s Bureau Quilt Gardens Tour this past summer.
Sue Benak, holder of the winning raffle ticket, immediately realized the significance of the “Hope” quilt. “The quilt I won is all about giving hope for a cure for breast cancer. So it seems appropriate for it to be displayed in a place where women and their families can receive hope and inspiration. The Retreat is the perfect location to fulfill this objective,” stated Benak. “Dr. Laura Morris and the entire staff there provide unyielding hope and encouragement to the women whose lives they touch. If this quilt offers comfort to even one woman viewing it, then it has served its purpose.”
The 2011 Quilt Gardens Tour, organized by the Elkhart County Convention & Visitors Bureau, will feature 18 official gardens throughout Elkhart County, each inspired by a unique quilt design and powered by imagination.
