Elkhart County ‘Box City 2010’ reveals plight of homeless
ELKHART — ‘Box City 2010,’ a daylong event devoted to raising awareness about the long-term plight of homeless in Elkhart County, is set for Nov. 19.
Elkhart County Homeless Coalition, event sponsor, will form a ‘box city’ on Elkhart’s Civic Plaza from 10 a.m. to 7 a.m. Events included in ‘Box City 2010’ are free meals for everyone served from noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m., entertainment, games and activities for children. Also, donations of travel-size hygiene items (deodorant, shampoo, soap), Kleenex and hand sanitizer will be collected at Box City.
Elkhart County’s Box City 2010 will be conducted in conjunction with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. The national effort is co-sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless and National Student Campaign against Hunger and Homelessness.
