Neighbors eye IUSB parking plan
SOUTH BEND — Two paved and landscaped campus parking lots will be created in the spring after Indiana University South Bend demolishes up to 37 vacant houses it owns west of campus, neighbors were told Wednesday.
The lots will have smooth surfaces, be properly lighted and attractive, said Thomas A. Morrison, IU’s vice president for capital projects and facilities. “There will be no gravel parking lots. I guarantee that,” he said.
About 60 neighbors, students, employees and others turned out for a public meeting in the Student Activities Center to hear more about plans for new campus parking on the land between Esther Street and Bellevue Avenue.
Neighbors who attended seemed cautiously optimistic about details provided.
