“Tis la noche before Navidad, and all through the casa
not a raton is stirring, caramba! ?Qué pasa?
The stockings are hung con mucho cuidado,
in hopes that Saint Nicolas will fill obligado
to leave a few cosas aquí and allá,
for chico and chica (y maybe something for me).
Los niños are snuggled all safe in their camas,
some in vestidos and some in pajamas,
their little cabezas are full of mucho good things
they’re all esperando lo que Santa will bring.
Santa is down on the Santa Fe Plaza
with his burritos raring for the jolly jornada,
Mamacita is sitting beside la ventana
stuffing el grande turkey para mañana.
When Santa arrives in his chilli red suit,
he looses no tiempo in stuffing the loot.
A dolly for niña, and a perro pequeño
to fill hermanito’s ferventísimo sueño.
For Tito, a necktie de color flamante,
for mamacita, perfume de flores fragante.
For primo José, una guitarra to play,
for papacito, muchos billetes to pay.
As Santa is leaving, his good deeds all done,
he turns at the puerta, his face full of fun,
and he chuckles merrily and shouts with all his might:
“Merry Christmas a todos, y a todos good night!”
