Museum and Purdue Extension join to offer food preservation workshop
In partnership with Purdue Extension, the Elkhart County Historical Museum will be offering a Preserve it Now…Enjoy it Later: Jam & Jelly workshop, presented by Mastering Home Food Preservation instructor Abigail Creigh, HHS Extension Educator. Participants will learn the importance of food safety during food preservation, the necessary equipment & supplies, and the proper method to safely preserve in a boiling water bath. Each participant will assist in preparing two different jam/jelly recipes and take home a preserved jelly jar of each.
“Fruit growing and preservation has a long history in Elkhart County,” said Musuem Curator of Education, Jenifer Blouin Policelli. “This workshop offers a chance to practice some of those skills and take home some delicious handmade treats!”
All equipment and supplies will be provided for the program, which takes place Saturday, January 17, from 10am – 12pm at Elkhart County Historical Museum in Bristol. Registration is now open and limited to the first 15 people to sign up. The cost is $15. Blueberry jam is among the recipes participants in Elkhart County Historical Museum’s Jam & Jelly Preservation Workshop will learn to make.
