Film on Palestine to Be Shown June 27 at Goshen Public Library

An Oscar-nominated 2011 film, “5 Broken Cameras,” will be shown at 12 noon Saturday, June 27 in the auditorium of Goshen Public Library, 601 S. Fifth St. The film depicts the perilous journey of a Palestinian family in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, 2005 to 2010.

Filmmaker Emad Burnat chronicles the birth and early years of his fourth son, Gibreel, while also filming the nonviolent resistance of his neighbors to Israeli encroachment on their land and community.

Sponsored by Michiana Voices, the two-hour event is free and open to the public—with light refreshments and free childcare. Brief discussion will follow the 94-minute documentary.

The June 27 program is prelude to a mid-July event when Iyad Burnat, brother of Emad, hopes to speak in Goshen as a guest of Michiana Voices. A participant in the film, Iyad is also a Palestinian activist. For more info, e-mail ana@michianavoices.org.
