New Purdue University Fort Wayne -

New Degree Options, In Class and Online

Prospective students seeking a degree at Purdue University Fort Wayne now have three new options. The Bachelor of Science in Psychology will be available for students beginning the fall 2018 semester. The two online degrees, Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Bachelor of Science in Business, will also be open for admission for the fall 2018 semester.
In psychology, departments often offer both Bachelor of Science (BS) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree options because the two programs emphasize slightly different paths and serve different types of students.

“We are excited to be able to offer more flexibility for our students with the new Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree in addition to the existing Bachelor of Arts degree,” said Carol Lawton, chair and professor of psychology. “The Bachelor of Science degree, with its stronger foundation in research skills and increased exposure to the other sciences, will be especially beneficial to students who are headed to graduate programs in psychology and related fields or to medical school.”
Purdue University Fort Wayne is also accepting applications for two new online degree programs, Bachelor of Science in Early Education and Bachelor of Science in Business.
“Online programs are becoming more prevalent in higher education,” said Carol Sternberger, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs. “For working adults, having the flexibility to begin or complete a four-year degree on their time is a compelling motivator when taking that next step.”
Education professionals who currently have an associate’s degree and teach in early learning programs such as preschools, head-start, or ministries, are eligible to earn the Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. Students will have two program options, birth through age five (non-license) and pre-k through grade three (eligible for license). Both options have been recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children as high-quality teacher preparation programs — the only bachelor’s programs in northeast Indiana with this recognition.
The online Bachelor of Science in Business is being offered with a major in Marketing or Management. The program can be completed entirely online as well as in its traditional face-to-face or combination formats.
“Purdue Fort Wayne is the only university in northeast Indiana accredited by AACSB-International,” said Melissa Gruys, dean of the Doermer School of Business. “Only 5% of business schools worldwide achieve this highest level of accreditation.”
