Sitting here and remembering the early weekend mornings that undocumented youth would have because we had to fill up buckets of water and soap for the car washes. We would raise enough to give our $500 scholarships to local undocumented youth graduating high school. Por eso ahora nadie me puede decir que las cosas no estan en o vienen de la comunidad. We hustled, and we found community.I remember the workshops we’d make up for ourselves, so we knew how to guide each other thrUndocumented youth and their families have been in the movement from the beginning. Whether it be because we wanted to afford going to college or to fight for family members in deportation proceedings, we placed ourselves in the movement for the long run. How we have each decided to keep fighting is resistance, and I am so proud to know we all come from the same pain and resilience.

We’re still doing our best with what we have. As time continues, we’re positioning ourselves so that we can be of better use, or no use at all. The movement continues, and we continue to learn with it. Our families continue to grow and our vision and heart with it.I’m personally involved in and proud of the work that IUYA has done and continues to do. If you’re able to make it out to the 2019fancy banquet this year check out the website linked here. It’s really just a reason for us to bring together amazing folks doing amazing work for undocumented families in Indiana, and party at the same time. It’s also a reason for us to celebrate the many undocumented immigrants working hard or pursuing higher education. If you can’t make it but would like to support our work (what we do at) and the organization we’re working on to be, please consider donating here:

This year the Indiana Undocumented Youth Alliance (IUYA) will celebrate the 2019-2020 IUYA scholarship recipients on Friday, October 11th, 2019 at the Schwitzer Student Center of the University of Indianapolis from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Our Hope is Our Liberation

The theme this year is dedicated to and inspired by our 2019 Keynote Speakers, Juan-Carlos Alarcon and Salvador Perez Lopez from Northern Indiana! Juan Carlos and Salvador are Grammy Award recipients as musicians in jazz artist John Daversa’s album, “American Dreamers: Voices of Hope, Music of Freedom.” We celebrate our speakers as their stories and vision of a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities define our movement. Liberation can be manifested in various forms, and as undocumented seeking to pursue our dreams and that of our families is one way to obtain it. This year music is a muse! Join us for the annual banquet to learn more about what hope and liberation means for the undocumented led movement!
