Fundraiser next month to benefit working families hit by coronavirus
The digital-access celebration will steer needed resources to combat educational inequities and boost protections for essential workers and vulnerable communities.
LOS ANGELES — Iconic labor leader Dolores Huerta will celebrate her 90th birthday with a live-stream benefit for communities endangered by coronavirus on Saturday, May 16. She will also mark her official birthday today Friday, April 10, with a #90for90, #SiSePuede, #DHF, #DH90 fundraising drive at https://bit.ly/Dolores90th.
The May 16 remote-attendance party will feature a roster of special guests for a night of entertainment and activism. The goal is to raise funds for the Dolores Huerta Foundation’s (DHF) frontline efforts to mitigate the impact of the pandemic in the regions of California where politically disempowered, low income, immigrant, and farmworker communities are disproportionately impacted.
Among the issues the foundation aims to address are remote learning inequities in public schools; insufficient meal provisions for low-income students, and the need for labor protections, and legislative income support for our most vulnerable communities.

Huerta, who co-founded the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez and originated the phrase “¡Si Se Puede!” while fighting on behalf of exploited farmworkers. She received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012 for her pioneering political activism and community organizing. She continues to advance social justice through her foundation, DHF, which focuses on education justice, increasing civic engagement, LGBTQ equality, eradicating child poverty and ensuring that community resources are allocated equitably.
Jane Fonda, who will participate in the celebration added “For more decades than most people have been alive, Dolores Huerta has worked to ensure that the people who plant and harvest our food —and their families—are respected, protected and that they are paid a living wage.
