There was an area close to the women’s neighborhood, Barrio Boris Vega, where people dumped their garbage mostly because it was convenient to do so. Continue Reality Check: Immigrants and Health Care August 12, 2009 Washington D.C. - As the current debate on health care rages in town halls across the nation, immigration is being used as a way to jam a stick into the wheels of impending reform. Some are scapegoating immigrants as a way to thwart progress on the issue and are arguing that even legal immigrants be restricted from our health system. Linking these two issues does nothing to advance necessary reforms to either health care or immigration. The U.S. can do both, but public debate and discussion must be based on facts, not myths and misinformation. Continue Habitat for Humanity Celebration Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County held its first ever Family Reunion and Celebration on Saturday, August 15, at Oxbow Park. Habitat Partner families, homeowners, volunteers, staff and board and committee members gathered to celebrate over 500 people housed and 132 homes provided since the program began in 1986. Attendees enjoyed grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw, chips and all kinds of salads and desserts while listening to the delightful blue grass music of Northern Harmony. For the young and the young at heart there was additional fun with face painting, a corn hole game and Buttons the Clown with balloon animals. Also there were prizes for lucky winners. Continue Organizers of Fifth Annual Health Fair expecting huge community participation On Saturday September 12, 2009 the all volunteer staff of over 300 people will begin arriving to Elkhart Central High School to begin final preparations for the 5th Annual Elkhart County Health Fair organized by the HLHCEC.
